ROLAND GK3 vs GK STUDIO EXTREME SPECS
GK STUDIO EXTREME
It’s a GK preamp and a Breakout Box in one! GK Studio Extreme represents a 100% solution in recording separate strings. In terms of audio performance GK Studio Extreme leaves the Roland GK3 far behind.
The separate string signal-to-noise-ratio is a full 10dB improvement on Roland’s GK3. In recording, compared to a passive breakout box, GK Extreme signal-to-noise ratio boasts an incredible +20dB separate string improvement.
FEATURES:
• Breakout Box and GK pre-amp in one!
• Add a simple ‘Break-in’ cable and you have a 100% v-synth re-amping solution
• 10dB quieter than the Roland GK3 in A/B comparison.
• When recording separate strings with a passive breakout box, GK Extreme’s signal-to-noise-ratio is a massive 20dB improvement over GK3. Why? The GK Extreme is already in the output and target area of 0dB, and a hex pickup is usually around -10dBu. In digital audio processing, ‘normalizing’ a separate string recording by 10dB is necessary, which in turn raises the the noise background by 10dB. So 10dB of gain ‘Normalizing’ a hex pickup + 10dB from the louder GK Extreme circuit = 20dB. Sticking the boot in on the GK3, Roland have overlooked the critical output to signal-to-noise-ratio ‘crossover point’, with the GK sensor and preamp design. A few modifications to the existing design, and a metal case would have made GK3 a hi-end pickup and pre-amp.
• No-compromise extremely low resistance OFC ‘breakout’ cable set, with ultra-low resistance and dual screens.
• Custom multicore return OFC cable to V-Synth for re-amping and hand-free patch changing.
• Hi-Quality separate power supply: Mains and Battery. A battery power supply is 2-3dB quieter than a mains supply.
• Metal enclosure. Roland chose a plastic case to house their GK3. GK Studio Extreme utilises a metal case to ensure maximum electromagnetic interference suppression.
